So Your Partner Wants An Open Relationship?
Q
Dr. Darcy, I met a woman on Tinder and I really like her. We dated 2 months before making a commitment. A week later she told me she wants an open relationship. Can we work this out?
Please don’t tell me this is my fault for going on a hook up app when I was looking for a relationship.
A
Dude, vet your sources before you presume to call Tinder a “hookup app” to the former Global Ambassador of Tinder. 😂😂😂You really can’t make this shit up. Now, let’s discuss your situation…

Q:
Dear Dr. Darcy,
My boyfriend broke up with me recently and I’m having a super hard time with it. I’ve never experienced pain like this in my life. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and I can barely function at work. I honestly feel like I’m losing my mind. I’m not a kid, I’m 29, and I’ve had breakups before, but I’ve never felt such pain. It’s causing me to act in ways that I’m not proud of. After we broke up, he unfriended me, but because I can’t tolerate not knowing what’s going on in his life, I set up a fake FB account with a hot girl’s profile picture, and I sent him a friend request and he accepted it. So now I can see him flirting with other girls and he’s actually flirting with my fake account. But I can’t stop. Do you think I’m crazy? What should I do?
A:
Deep breath. Here’s what I want you to do…

I know, I know, the whole topic is cringe-worthy. But frankly, if you were following the clichés, I wouldn’t have spent the last two decades hearing about people having the one-and-done. Read MoreWhy Love Is Actually Irrelevant to the Success of Your Relationship
Relationship success is a science.
Long-term love has less to do with the falling part than it does with the maintaining part.
We’re all familiar with the falling, if not through first-hand experience then from movies, music, and social media. Media of every kind loves to highlight the beginnings of relationships: The meeting, the dating, and if the planets are aligned, the marrying.
And that’s where society loses interest – just when the relationship starts getting real.
Love isn’t all you need. Because like all emotions, love ebbs and flows. It’s not sustainable.

Q:
Dear Dr. Darcy:
My Fiancée and I have been together for 4 and a half years, we are in the process of buying our first home and were planning to marry next year.
Everything was going well and I love her, more than life itself, but, I went out with friends [on] the weekend and cheated on her with another girl. Someone neither of us know. I came home late the next morning and told her immediately. She is, obviously, finding it hard to cope but she is trying. I don’t want to lose what we have, but she is against seeing a therapist, for now at least. I am at a loss. I do not know why I made the biggest mistake of my life and I regret it fully.
Any advice you can offer will be gratefully received.
